Broome and Allen Scholarship Fund
The Broome & Allen Scholarship was founded
over 60 years ago by a group of Sephardic businessmen determined
to provide a summer vacation to children who otherwise would
not be able to escape the hot and humid New York City summers.
Over the years, the fund has enabled hundreds of children
to enjoy their summer vacations far from the city’s
heat. As times and circumstances changed, however, the scholarship
evolved accordingly.
Today, the Broome & Allen Scholarship
provides grants to undergraduate and graduate students of
Sephardic heritage and students concentrating in Sephardic
studies. Each recipient of a Broome and Allen Scholarship
is part of an elite group from three continents who have been
awarded this grant for tuition assistance in their academic
studies as a result of their outstanding scholarship and community
service; over one hundred grants have been awarded since
2004.- see
article.
The Broome & Allen Scholarship Committee regrets that, due to financial losses sustained by their investments, they are unable to offer the scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Committee anticipates resuming the scholarship in the future.
